J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai
1977
Synopsis
A global criminal empire known simply as Crime seeks to become the most powerful mafia organization in the world. To counter this threat, Interpol forms the International Science Special Investigation Squad, known as ISSIS, to coordinate operations against Crime across the globe.
In Japan, ISSIS Commander Daisuke Kujirai selects four young people whose lives are changed by tragedy and transforms them into cyborg warriors through advanced bionic operations. Goro Sakurai, Ryu Higashi, Karen Mizuki, and Bunta Daichi become Spade Ace, Dia Jack, Heart Queen, and Clover King. Together, they form J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai, an elite strike force whose name is drawn from the Jack, Ace, King, and Queen card motifs.
The team battles Crime's cyborg agents, criminals, and mechanical monsters while struggling with the human cost of their own transformations. Later, the flamboyant super cyborg Sokichi Banba arrives as Big One, taking command of the team and bringing a more confident style to their fight against Crime.
J.A.K.Q. Dengekitai began with a darker tone than Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, using crime drama elements and stories involving assassinations, trafficking, and organized violence. Beginning with Episode 23, the series was retooled with a lighter style following the introduction of Big One and the comedic agent Tamasaburou Hime. Despite the shift, the series concluded after 35 episodes.
